Introductory Letter – EDITED

My goals as a student is to exceed my own expectations. Knowing myself, I tend to procrastinate and leave everything last minute. Sometimes I underestimate my potential as a student and as a person. I consider myself a shy person and tend to keep things to myself. I can be a great student but my lack of participation in classes prevented me from having A’s (this was a big issue in High School). Once I started college, I noticed that I had come out of my shell, I was participating in classes, in debates, starting conversations. I saw an improvement in not just my grades but in my person as well.

This class has somewhat facilitated my goals already because in our class discussion there’s no limit or boundary to what we can say in the discussion, for example we can express ourselves freely about the readings or the topic, creating a comfortable environment; and when I feel comfortable in a class I tend to participate more. Another goal of mine that I hope to tackle is my writing, it could improve grammatically and punctuation wise. One of my biggest struggles is my speech when reading out loud because my pronunciation of words isn’t the best due to speech problems I had since I was 4, regardless of all the speech classes I have taken and to be completely honest I really don’t think this class can help me improve in these areas.

After graduating from City College, I wish to pursue in human biology, specifically in the forensic field. Human biology always fascinated me, for instance, the way the body works, the parts of the body, how the body has evolved to what it is now, etc. Forensic science was an answer to my curiosity. I took a forensic class my junior year of high school and my teacher taught us how to get the weight and height of a victim by their measurements, how long a body has been dead by its body liquids and temperature, and other fascinating things. It wasn’t until my senior year, when I took an anatomy and physiology class, there I learned how each nerve, muscle, organ and bone work together to function and control the human body, I even memorized almost every bone in the human skull and how to tell the sex and age of the victim.

My goals in the forensic field, besides being the best, is to be able to discover something new that can change the field and advance the findings of forensic. I would also love to become a forensic anthropologist (deals with bones), a forensic pathologist for corpses (skin and tissue), or a forensic psychologist who helps understand the mind of a victim or a murderer. I do plan on obtaining a graduate degree, Ph.D. in forensic anthropology. But first I would need to earn my bachelor’s degree. It is recommended to consider majoring in criminal justice, human biology, anthropology, or forensic science. Later on, I would earn a Master of Science in Forensic Anthropology. But if anything was to prevent me from achieving my goals I would most likely end up doing something in art, whether working in a museum or something related to forensic like a forensic artist.
